About the Client…

Lightwave / Crux is the designer and producer of high-end mountaineering and trekking equipment. Their products have been used in extreme environments around the world including Mount Everest and the wider Himalaya, Antarctica and Patagonia – in fact, they’ve been used on all of the world’s continents in most of the wilderness areas. With this in mind it’s no surprise to know that they have an enviable reputation for quality and strength and are used by some of the world’s greatest explorers.

The Brief…

The owners of Lightwave / Crux are design engineers so need little help in explaining the benefits of their products to their consumers. Vertigo Design was approached because of our wider background experience in travel and more particularly our understanding of the climbing and mountaineering market. The brief was simply to put into visual context their own ideas about how to get their message across. Creating a look and feel that was more upmarket and intelligent than the general camping market was the brief.

Our Process…

We listened closely to the owner’s explanation of his products and his obvious passion for what he does. We worked directly alongside the client at all stages to produce a series of collateral that expressed visually his vision for the company. We learnt a great deal along the way about equipment design and manufacture and this insight helped us to get their message across.
